Introduction of New RBYC General Manager – Lucy Lax
Good afternoon RBYC Members
My name is Lucy Lax, and I have been hired as your new General Manager. I am ecstatic that I have been chosen for this role. To me, this is a dream job, as it encompasses many of my passions both professionally and personally.
A little bit about me…….
I am a born and raised Saskatchewan girl and I grew up on a cattle & grain farm south of Lumsden. The Regina Beach and Buena Vista area has been a very special place for my family for almost a century now! My Great Grandfather Lax purchased a block of land in Buena Vista in the mid 1920’s, back when it was still called “Buena Vista Park”. This land quickly became a popular spot for our immediate and extended family to build their own spot to take advantage of lake life as we know it. This community was a huge part of my youth, and the memories I have of life at the lake will forever be unmatched.
Once I graduated high school, I made the decision to head west and experience life outside of Saskatchewan. I moved to the East Kootenays of British Columbia and worked in the Hospitality industry for Intrawest Resorts. During this time, I learned a lot about customer service and operational excellence in a fast-paced setting. In 2005 I moved to Calgary, to further my skillset. There, I spent 15 years working as a Sales & Marketing Representative within the Oil & Gas Industry, supplying support services to large drilling, construction, and mining companies. As the industry grew and changed, so did my role. I transitioned to working as an “Indigenous Liaison Manager”.
Fast forward to late 2020, a time where everyone’s lives changed both professionally and personally. It was then I made the choice to move back to Saskatchewan. It was the right time for me to make Buena Vista my current home for both me and my 13-year-old daughter, Jayde. Best decision we ever made! I obtained a job as a Business Development Manager for a consulting firm who specialized in creating economic and business development within First Nations Communities and Resource Development companies.
I truly believe that my previous work experience has taught me many skills that I can utilize in the role as your new General Manager. I will use my skills & passion for excellent customer service & operational excellence to create a safe & vibrant community minded atmosphere for all RBYC members and their families. It is my vision for this season and the seasons to follow that the Yacht club be an extension of your cabin or home. Another place to call home, to enjoy all the sights and sounds that lake life offers. You can expect to see more seasonal member events and an enriched kids club program, among many other social events and ideas we are working on. I am beyond excited for the 2024 season ahead.
I would love to hear back from RBYC Members, to learn more about you and your families’ needs as it pertains to membership with the club. Please feel free to introduce yourself within the community or join me for a coffee at the club. I am eager to meet you all.
Thank you for your time, everyone! I look forward to a great 2024 season ahead. Have a fantastic day!
Sincerely,
Lucy Lax
